Border Patrol Agent
The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) within the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is hiring immediately for full-time, entry-level career Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) opportunities. Salary and benefits include an annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents (BPA) ranging from $49,739 to $89,518 per year, with potential for additional pay based on duty location and experience. BPAs may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position offers a career ladder with grade level progression from GL-5 to GL-7, GS-11, and GS-12.
As a BPA, you will be part of a 60,000+ workforce that strives to protect the American people by safeguarding our borders, deterring illicit activity, and enhancing the nation's economic prosperity. Typical assignments include detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and custom laws, preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers, patrolling the international boundary and coastal waterways, and performing various checks and patrols.
Qualifications for the GL-5 grade level include one year of general work experience or a bachelor's degree. For the GL-7 grade level, one year of specialized work experience or a degree with superior academic achievement is required. Additional requirements include U.S. citizenship, primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years, and age restrictions in accordance with Public Law 100-238. Formal training will be provided at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico.
